CARE-Lab

Welcome to the CArdiovascular Research and Exercise (CARE) Lab at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. The CARE Lab is part of the Department of Physical Therapy at UNLV. Our research in the CARE Lab focuses on how the body responds to exercise. Our main interests are the regulation of heart rate and blood pressure, and the structure and function of the heart and the vascular system. We investigate the immediate response to different tasks like standing up, and the long term adaptations that occur with exercise programs. We use state-of-the-art equipment and non-invasive research methods, which are both high-quality and participant-friendly.

Only a few spots left in our Exercise and Down syndrome study!

Our Exercise and Down Syndrome Research Study is almost completed, we have only have 9 spots left for individuals with Down syndrome who are interested in participating. So far, our online exercise program with Dr. Sarah Mann of Mann Method PT and Fitness has been a big success. Not only did our participants with Down syndrome attend 93% of the workouts 3 times a week for 12 weeks, they also significantly improved their strength, balance, endurance and gait! Participants and their families said the following about our exercise program:

– “Living in a remote location, the online program is so convenient and I don’t think being remote is taking anything away from the personal attention and feedback that my son receives from Coach Sarah.”

– “I’ve seen tremendous growth in my son’s ability to engage people he has just met because of what Coach Sarah does”

– “My daughter has lost weight, and her clothes are fitting beautifully! Friends who have not seen her are amazed at the toning and self confidence she has since the start of the program.”

– “We think the exercise program is GREAT! Our son really knows and enjoys the routine, and his parents have been practicing having him be more independent and needing less prompting.”

– “We absolutely LOVE Coach Sarah’s motivation and energy! The way she brings everyone together in a family friendly and heartfelt way is phenomenal.”
